Amazon's Subscribe and Save: Worth it or not?

It's been a long time since I started my subscriptions with Amazon's program. I've learned a lot about the prices of the products, how quickly (or not) I really go through them, and how important my time and lack of memory is to me and my family.

I happened upon Amazon's Subscribe and Save program through Amazon Mom (which is now Amazon Family) and the wonderfully tempting offer of 10-20% off of diapers. At the time I had 2 in diapers and it was costly-especially when I ended up going through more diapers then I expected and was forced to buy them without coupons and a store that gouges you for things like that because you have no other option if you really need the diapers NOW. Usually we purchased our giant box of Huggies diapers from Costco, and occasionally it was worth it because of their $6 off coupon. Then we started buying at a local bimart for the same, non-coupon price, and that made sense for us as the boxes were normal sized and kids tend to grow fast. But when I discovered the S&S thing on Amazon I realized that every month I could get a discount (depending on the number of items in each shipment) and it automatically came to my door. No more worrying about forgetting to pick something up. No more running out and having to pay a ridiculous amount for those emergency diapers at 9 p.m.
Amazon runs deals on diapers quite often and there are a lot of options that you don't get when shopping at small town stores or even Costco since they usually carry limited versions of Huggies diapers. I don't think I have seen Pampers there in a long time either.
So for diapers and wipes-its a great place to make sure you are never caught without those very important things in your house!

I also discovered that my family's favorite brand of vitamins was also on Amazon; and it is cheaper than we were buying it elsewhere online AND it is part of the S&S program. Rainbow Light is a great brand and can run you close to $30 if you buy at a store like Fred Meyer. On Amazon you pay less especially when taking advantage of the S&S program. We have 5 kids and they go through their vitamins quickly. My husband and I also take the same brand vitamins and we go through ours a lot more slowly. Amazon S&S allows us to set the deliveries up so that we get more frequent shipments of the kids vitamins and ours arrive about every 5 months.
Can you find the vitamins cheaper elsewhere on line? Not for the same number of pills. On a quick glance you will see smaller prices but if you look closely you will notice that those are for a smaller quantity, usually 30 or 90 per bottle instead of the 150 you get on Amazon for 19.54 (and that is not even the S&S price. You also need to take into consideration the shipping. With Amazon Prime and Amazon Family you get free shipping whether you deliveries come every month or every 6 months.

I also really like the fact that you get a reminder email ahead of time letting you know that your next S&S shipment is getting ready. It allows you to go through and add or remove items. This is especially helpful when you set a schedule for a product like make-up, soap, shampoo, etc. and realize that you don't go through as much as you thought. I noticed for one thing that I did not go through my face scrub as quickly as I thought, so I had the ability to put off the shipment and change the schedule before I got another delivery.
The items available through the program are pretty diverse. Cleaning supplies, paper products, beauty supplies, razors, dog treats, and even food items. Just head here to find all the neat stuff you can have delivered to your door, on a schedule, for great prices.

I still recommend keeping an eye on the prices of the items you subscribe to. I get updates when prices go up or down or products are no longer available. This is great because I never find myself paying a lot more money for an item-I can either change the item, cancel it and find it elsewhere, or I can decide that the price increase is not high enough for me to change a thing.

So head over to Amazon and start poking around, you might be surprised at what you find!
