Aside from our monthly subscriptions and the occasional mp3 purchase we have random purchases made throughout the year on things that range from cleaning supplies, office stuff, gifts and now water bottles.
You see, the husband decided to buy me a decent water bottle for Christmas since hydration is important for everyone, but especially a pregnant woman. (Yes we are expecting again.) After a couple of weeks I realized how wonderful the water bottle was. Its Contigo brand and features the Autospout feature and straw. This means that when it is all closed up there are no leaks. With a press of a button the spout pops out and there is no tipping required to get the water out. It came in a generous 24 fl oz size and in a cute transparent purple. It's BPA free plastic, top rack dishwasher safe and came with 3 straws.
After seeing what a difference it made for my hydration and the fact that I rarely used a glass anymore- coffee and tea and other beverages were not settling well with my morning sickness plagued stomach- the husband and I decided to look into kids versions.
You see, with 5 munchkins needing to stay properly hydrated, ease of use was important. Easy cleaning, leak proof, BPA free plastic, tough material, and the ability to have different colors or patterns were on the list of must haves. Price was also a consideration since we were looking for 5 of these things.
Along comes Amazon.
After a relatively quick search I found dozens of options on Contigo brand water bottles for kids. I narrowed it down slightly by adding Autospout to my search. The prices were great too. I think the most I paid was $10.99 for one of them. The total came to $50.35 for 5 leak proof water bottles in 5 different patterns. I could have saved a little bit by ordering plain colored bottles but I would have had to add labels or markings in order for my kids not to get them mixed up.
These things are amazing.
Here is one of the designs I picked up: Contigo Autospout Kids Striker Water Bottle, 14-Ounce, Navy Graphic
They are truly leak proof. You see, my water bottle only touts the leak proof feature when its closed up, but once the spout is up if you turn it upside down you get water leaking from the straw. Now its not a rush of water and is certainly better than a traditional bottle that would spill the majority of its contents if knocked sideways, but still not ideal for kids. These kids bottles however have this cool valve technology inside the lid that prevents such spills. I tested each bottle multiple times when chuck full of ice water. I checked with spout closed and open. Not a drop of water came out of those things. Which is great since I have witnessed my 2 year old turn a sippy cup upside down and shake it until she has a nice puddle to play in.
They also have cute little designs so my kids know which one is theirs without labels and stickers that eventually peel off or marker that wears and washes off.
The nicest thing about the purchase was that I didn't have to drag my kids to the store, search through a limited selection of water bottles for designs we liked. All I had to do was find ones with the features I wanted, prices I was willing to pay, and then I could show the kiddos pictures of their options. It was easy and quick and my family now has an easier way to stay healthy.
Not to mention I don't walk in the kitchen and find a row of cups, a puddle of water on the floor or hear arguments over whose cup is whose.
