Review of eSalon hair color service

If you are a busy mom of many little ones like I am then its possible that you have a list a mile long of things you'd like to do for yourself that is undone. For me the most frequently neglected tasks are the kind that are cosmetic like a spa day, getting my nails done, getting a massage or more necessary- getting my hair done.
It is not easy to find babysitting for every doctors appointment, shopping trip and dentist visit and when you add in optional activities like dates and beauty treatment type things it can get frustrating. Also, I have a nursing infant who MIGHT do okay for a quick trim and thinning but I doubt she'd survive a 3 hour hair coloring appointment without a little nip.
So what is a woman to do? At first I sought out the box colors from the store-and luckily did not have disastrous results but it did not seem to last very long and I was still leery of relying too heavily on them.
That is when I read a little blurb in Good Housekeeping about eSalon.com.
What is so special about eSalon.com?
Well-first you do it yourself at home which means no need for babysitters, no having to work around appointments and your hairdressers schedule.
How does it work?
When you create an account you are asked questions about your hair-things like length, if it has undergone any chemical treatments like perms or relaxers, and if it has been recently dyed. They get a profile going of your skin tone and eye color, your natural hair color and the color your hair has been dyed. They then ask you what your goal color is. You can even upload a picture of yourself so that the stylists can confirm your natural hair color and they can use that along with any additional info you want to give them, to formulate a color just for you like your in person stylist would.

My experience was pretty darn good. I went through the steps and submitted my info. I even uploaded a photo. I got a message from the eSalon team that the color goal I had was 2 shades darker than my current color. They informed me that they recommend not jumping to a darker shade all at once but instead to do it gradually as it is not as easy to lighten your hair. I appreciated the info and chose to go with their recommendation of a slightly lighter shade.

My kit arrived in a pretty timely manner and came with 2 separate colors-one for my roots and one for the rest of my hair. The color and developer are in separate containers so that you mix when you are ready to get to work! Also included are sample packs of shampoo and conditioner, 2 pairs of disposable gloves, a dye applicator brush. When I ordered I was also offered some other items at a discounted price, one was a kit that included clips to hold your hair separate while coloring, the other was a leave in conditioner. In hindsight I kind of wish I would have gotten the kit because it was difficult to separate my hair without the clips.

The coloring experience itself was a little more complicated than the box color, but that was because I have roots that needed a different color than the body of my hair. It was time consuming but the results were worth the time. The color was rich and I really like how it turned out. It has lasted nicely and it has been close to 4 weeks so far.

When I made my purchase they were running a deal of $9.99 for your first order and that is pretty comparable to the box colors on the shelves and it is a better quality in my opinion.

The price jumps up a bit for a regular price of $24.95.
Also available on their site are shampoos and conditioners, color enhancing treatments, temporary root touch up, hair coloring tools .like clips, timers, mixing bowls and brushes and smocks.

So if you find yourself needing a hair color treatment but short on time, money or both I recommend trying this out!
